Centered along the 52-mile-long Houston Ship Channel, the Greater Port of Houston consists of nearly 200 public and private facilities. The eight public terminals are owned, operated, managed or leased by the Port of Houston Authority and include the general cargo terminals at the Turning Basin, Care, Jacintoport, Woodhouse, and the Barbours Cut and Bayport container terminals.
Each year, more than 247 million tons of cargo move through Port Houston, carried by more than 8,200 vessels and 215,000 barges. The port is vital to the local, state and national economy and the maintenance and improvements of the public facilities ensures its continued economic impacts.
Port Houston is modernizing and expanding its existing facilities by strategically investing in capital projects. These Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) will enhance the Port's waterway, terminal, road, rail and industrial property infrastructure to create the most efficient, productive and cost-effective system possible to move customers' freight to the marketplace.
Port Houston has selected Projectmates' construction program management software to manage their CIP projects in one, collaborative platform. By using Projectmates, the Port will now have the tools needed to track and manage all project costs and invoices, save time on RFI responses and Submittal approvals, and hit project-related goals in a timely, efficient manner.
